Isn’t there a few that are saying independent schools are business and not paying tax? Hence the “tax break” as other businesses have to pay tax etc etc. This again is false but another angle to tackle of this misleading rhetoric.

Indeed, complete tripe. Some are charities, some are for-profit, and the VAT exemption has nothing to do with it. Meanwhile lots of for-profit activity is VAT exempt, much of it listed above.

They have had now to register as businesses in order to pay over the VAT wrung from the unfortunate parents. Previously they had charitable status.

In addition, to my knowledge, only Bev Turner on GBnews has covered this accurately (as you have done here) and in any depth. She did a piece from a Cathedral Choir school (forgive me, I forget which one) back in September as the school, very small around 350 pupils, is badly hit by this tax. My sister is a head in the independent sector - they are not passing the increase on to parents. Many others are not as fortunate as her school and some local to us will close because of this, stretching an already overburdened state system even further.

But how do lose a charitable status, when it is also a legal status? (See Mary Synge. Suggest IP gets in touch with her.)
